Be Do Have, a good paradigm shift

I once heard Zig Ziglar, one of the world’s renowned motivational speakers and authors, talked about “Be Do Have”. Because I was still in university and did not possess high English language proficiency yet, I did not really understand what he meant. So, I simple took the talk as one of those talks that I heard on a daily basis.

However, now that I am trying quite hard and persistently to become successful, the talk unexpectedly strikes me again and makes a lot of sense to me. In case you have never heard this philosophy before, I am going to simplify it and hopefully it makes some sense to you.

1. Be

Becoming successful is more like a mind game after all these years that I have pursued it. Regardless of the definition of success, you’ve got to be able to believe and visualize yourself successful before you start working to become successful. This is a logic, and it’s very simple. Unless you believe you can become successful, you can’t become successful at all. Without the belief, you don’t have the motivation to work on your success.

Nowadays, even when I sleep, I dream of becoming successful. In my brain, heart and mind, I strongly believe that I can and will become successful in my life and profession. I visualize myself realizing the success, enjoying the rewards, getting the respect, having no more personal or financial restrictions to pursue my favorite activities, having all the nice things that I have always wanted and etc.

My dream and visualization don’t randomly happen. Yet, it happens almost all the time. That’s why I have the motivation and commitment to work hard despite challenges, obstacles or disappointments.

2. Do

Having a dream to become successful or believing that success is possible and realistic is absolutely great. Yet, the success is never going to be realized unless actions are taken. Plus, the actions must be taken properly and correctly.

I think you have already known that there are a lot of people who work very hard on their daily basis, but never get a chance to become successful at all. These people, in my opinion, either take on the wrong actions or take on the actions wrongly.

If you want to become successful, you should carefully observe what successful people do. For instance, if you want to become rich, you should behave or do like rich people or at least don’t behave or do what rich people do.

Nowadays, I do many things and am highly careful of my actions because I don’t want them to be just of quantity, but quality. That’s why I keep challenging myself to do what successful people do to become successful. For instance, I want to become a successful businessman and know that successful business-people take very good care of their customers, so I take extremely good care of my business clients. Plus, successful business-people dress properly and nicely whenever they talk or do their business with their clients, so I do the same thing even though I occasionally hate to dress professionally especially on weekends.

3. Have

After being and doing, it’s time to reap the rewards. Only at this stage do successful people understand that they can have what they have longed for.

This is the easiest and happiest stage of the three. For a farmer, it’s a time when they can get their yield. For a student, it’s a time when they can graduate with results decided by their prior work efforts and commitment.

Nowadays, even though I have not completely received what I want, I have already got something and explicitly know that there are more achievements coming in because I have behaved and done what I should have with my all-in efforts.
