Have you ever wondered why you don’t stand out amongst your group members? Have you questioned how you can make yourself stand out? If yes, please read on, and hopefully you will find my following tips helpful for you.
1. Dress well
This point may appear lame to you, but dress really makes a big difference because people in general pay very close attention to the outside appearance of people they see whether or not for the first time.
Reading this, some of you might ask yourself ‘do I have to wear sexy clothes?’ or ‘do I have to appear like a nerd?’
In fact, you don’t have to be completely different from your group in terms of dressing. But dress well enough that makes you stand out. For example, when I am invited to any club or seminar, I rarely if not never wear the club or seminar T-shirt because it doesn’t make me stand out from them. Instead, I choose my own proper outfit.
Regarding dressing, I hope you don’t narrow too much to refer to only clothes. Dressing includes clothing, hair dressing, perfume wearing, jewelry using, brand using, color selecting, and many others.
In short, this point pretty much refers to your physical appearance. If possible, you’ve got to make it look stunning sometimes.
2. Be the first
One of the most important attitudes that you should possess is ‘be the first in whatever you do in group if you can’. Supposed you were sitting a class now, you would want to ask question(s) or volunteer to offer comments or answers.
In marketing, it’s crucially important that a product becomes the first in the customers’ mind and opinion. Once a company is able to do this, the company has already secured a very good market for its product(s).
Take love for example. A person generally remembers his/her first lover. Their first love seems to get stamped in their mind/heart that it’s hard for them to forget no matter how many people they have been with. A generally remembers their first love even if that love was not successful.
In a group of your friends, you will be remembered or become out-standing if you are the first in doing anything proposed to the group.
3. Be the last
If you are not able to be the first, be the last. If compared, being the last has little less impact than the first. However, it’s still better than being in the middle.
Supposed you were attending a public speaking competition and had to listen to 10 speeches, which one(s) do you think you would remember relatively more or the most clearly?
According to my experience as a public speaking contestant and judge, I’ve learnt that an average normal person tends to remember more the first and last speeches. (Is this true for you as well?) Why? This has a lot to do with attention time span.
4. Speak loud
You may not know this, but loud voice can help a person become spot-lighting because it allows the person to attract attention from the listeners or overcome unnecessary distractions in particular place. That’s the reason why they install a microphone in a big room or hall.
Therefore, whenever you speak, make sure that your voice can be heard, not too soft because it makes your listeners sleepy or too loud because it annoys your listeners.
5. Be uniquely different
This point particularly refers to your point of view. Out-standing people are usually those with different ideas; they don’t go with the flow.
Please don’t misunderstand this point that you have to disagree with other people all the times because that you agree doesn’t show your uniqueness.
The truth is you can agree and still be unique in your ideas. For example, you may add some more points to your friends’ ideas on which you have agreed. Your adding new ideas that help make the original ideas better makes you a unique person.
6. Consistency
You may not believe me, but being consistent in doing your work or using the above-mentioned qualities contributes a lot to your being outstanding. Doing things regularly is crucially important for you to be a genuine person. Generally, people with high integrity get a lot of respect.
An outstanding person is someone who is consistent in whatever they do. If they talk a lot, they tend to talk a lot whenever they can. If they like challenges, they will challenge whenever they can.
So, if you choose to be the first in whatever you do, just keep this behavior. Don’t change through times and circumstances. Just remain this trait. Success or failure is not important, but people will remember you and you will achieve your goal to become outstanding.
